One of the toys I brought home from BlogHer ’12 was a HEXBUG®. I had seen them before, but had not ever seen one in motion, so you can imagine my surprise when Little Man turned it on and I saw how crazily realistic those little buggers were. Of course, the little item became one of Little Man’s favorite toys and he loved turning it on and letting it loose all over the house. Within no time he was begging me for another one so that they could battle or race, which was funny since I had just been offered a review of the HEXBUG® Warriors Battling Robots and Arena!
The day our package arrived I showed it to Little Man who was ultra-excited to open it. Since I have to take photos for the review I told him to wait for his Daddy to come home and help him… Of course that happened to be a night his Daddy ended up working late, so the next day Little Man asked again and again until I gave in and allowed him to open his new toy. We opened the box, to find a small arena and two Battle Robots. I was happy that the track was so easy to assemble that Little Man was able to click the pieces together himself. (This is a good thing, as it ensures he can play with the track on his own!) Once he got the figure eight style track together he was able to begin battling.
Of course he chose a favorite HEXBUG® Battle Robot and put his new guy to the test. He turned both bots on and watched as the lights on the Robots went from green to yellow to red showing their “health” decreasing with each bump or hit. Plus, each of the Battle Robots came with a battle attachment and armor, which he had a blast using. Coming from a parent’s point-of-view I have a secret wish that the set included a way to snap the attachments to the track or something along those lines, for easy storage, as it was hard to us to keep track of the small attachments. But Little Man did his best to always put all the pieces in the bin we decided would be the HEXBUG bin. Oh and I do love that you can purchase additional Battle Robots and even a HEXBUG Warriors Battle Stadium, which now are on Little Man’s Holiday Wish List!
All in all, this little set is very simple and easy to put together and offers tons of fun “battle-time” for the kids.

This looks fun! We have a few Hexbugs habitats and tracks, but I know my son would love the idea of battling bugs!

My kids love hexbugs. I like that this version looks more like robots than bugs. The little bugs sometimes creep me out when I find them stuck under the couch.

My son is a bit young for Hexbugs but my husband thinks they’re pretty cool. I have a feeling we’ll have our fair share in just a few years!
