Facebook Updates and what this means for US!

Okay folks – I woke up the other day, like many Bloggers to ‘the updated Facebook rules’ and like many other Bloggers, I began freaking out. Just like always talk went all over the Facebook pages saying things like, “FB likes can no longer be in giveaways!” “even tools such as Rafflecopter and Giveaway Tools can’t be used anymore!” Etc… it was crazy. Of course, it also started riot-like behavior as Bloggers argued the facts, pointing everyone to this post or that post ‘explaining the new rules!’

I freaked out… especially after reading THIS POST and instead of joining in the arguments, I remembered that our friend Greg, from Rafflecopter had sent an email out a while back about working WITH Facebook to make sure his giveaway App was abiding by all Facebook rules. So, I contacted him, with the link to the post and like always, he responded in NO-time. Here is his response –

“We’ve had a few folks contact us the past several days with questions surrounding Facebook promotion guidelines, likes, and Rafflecopter. Everything that I wrote in this blog post still holds true regarding Rafflecopter giveaways and Facebook promotion guidelines:

Facebook page guidelines were actually updated on 12/17/12, but these updates revolve around your Facebook page’s cover photo. Facebook promotion guideline remain unchanged:

I *think* a lot of the confusion that started the last week revolve around giveaways where folks ask entrants to enter one giveaway entry option that points to a webpage where many Facebook like buttons are placed (I’ve heard this referred to as “like-farming”). But if you’re running a giveaway like our launch giveaway (http://blog.rafflecopter.com/2012/11/rafflecopter-premium-launch-giveaway/) with one Facebook entry option, that certainly isn’t breaking any rules.

At the end of the day, it’s always a possibility that Facebook can change their promotion guidelines. We have a good relationship with the team @ Facebook; if they were to make updates, we’ll always make the appropriate changes and make sure everyone’s updated with the changes. But Facebook would give us a period of time to make those changes and wouldn’t just pull the rug out from underneath us and start banning people left and right πŸ˜›

I hope that helps!”

So, basically, what was happening, and what happened to a really good friend of mine, Β is that the PAGES with FACEBOOK LIKES are no-longer allowed. They are called ‘like-farming’ and Facebook has issues with it. What it also means is that any Facebook like must be a like on it’s own in an entry form. Meaning, you can’t say click like on a post as an entry…. I am not saying all these posts we are seeing are wrong, just that after going strait to the source, I am feeling a bit better –

Here is a video to explain it all –

The rules have not changed and as long as the LIKE is in an entry form (or 3rd party app) to enter we are GOLDEN… so no more click this link to like 100’s of pages, instead, it means that Bloggers, such as Adventures of 8 will stick to smaller giveaways with ALL entries in the entry form!

I hope this all helps… and thank you, again, Rafflecopter, for always staying on top of these things!!!
