I have a confession to make; I am a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan. I remember cuddling with my Mom on the couch to watch the original movie. I was in awe of the colors and how beautiful everything was. Well, here I am in my 30′s and I am in just as much awe of the new movie, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL!
I was given the opportunity to see the new OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL in 3D and it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! You remember how beautiful the scenery was in the Emerald City back in the day? Well, think of that with today’s cinematography! Talk about beautiful. Okay, I am getting ahead of myself. First of all, I normally do not do so well with 3D movies. For some reason they normally give me headaches and hurt my eyes, but this movie didn’t have that effect on me. From the into credits all through the movie the 3D was awesome. I felt like I was inside the movie and the 3D was smooth!
I am not sure if you know, but this movie is kind of a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, telling the story of the Wizard and how he came to BE the Wizard of Oz. The movie started in of all places Kansas and moved onto Oz. Now, let me tell you, I was enthralled with Oz; Disney did an amazing job of capturing every single aspect of the magical and fantastical land of Oz.
I really felt that each character was perfectly casted for this movie. James Franco played the woman-loving small time circus magician who had no issues using his smile and quick wit to win everyone, including the audience over. The three witches in the movie, played by Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Michelle Williams were right on.

I loved how each of them reminded me of the original witches, for example, Michelle Williams did an amazing job keeping her voice kind to show that she was the sweet Glinda!
Of course, the movie wouldn’t be complete without the humor that was brought by Zach Braff as the bumbling monkey assistant or the heartwarming moments brought to the movie by Joey King who played the China Doll! Those two did an awesome job making the Wizard more ‘human!’
All in all, Hubby and I loved the movie. From start to finish, we were both completely enthralled in every moment of the movie. There were many ahs, ooohs, and OH MY GOODNESS moments. The whole theater seemed to really love the witti-ness and back and forth moments between each of the cast members and I have to say that the movie definitely transported us into Oz! I can’t wait to see it again with the kids.
