Bloggers – Please don’t lose your PageRank…

I am contacted many times by PR Reps and others about features, guest posts, etc on Adventures of 8! Within the first response I am always very clear that I have no issues featuring companies and posting guest posts but all of my links are No-Follow.

For an explanation of NoFollow for newer Bloggers or those that don’t know –

According to Wikepedia – nofollow is a value that can be assigned to the rel attribute of an HTML a element to instruct some search engines that a hyperlink should not influence the link target’s ranking in the search engine’s index. It is intended to reduce the effectiveness of certain types of internet advertising because their search algorithm depends heavily on the amount of links to a website when determining which websites should be listed in what order in their search results for any given term.

The reason all of my Sponsored posts are nofollow, is because Google is very strict that if you are paid, via product or monetarily, you cannot use follow-links. They are so strict in fact that many Blogs, just last week, lost their PageRank because of not abiding by these rules.

Here is a video from Matt Cutts, head of the webspam team at Google, explaining:

The crazy thing is that with all of this happening, PR Reps and some companies are still demandning and asking for foll0w-links and worst yet, some blogs are still allowing them. Those blogs that are allowing them are not only hurting themselves, since they can lose their PageRank, but they are also hurting us other Bloggers because those PR Reps and Companies now assume because one Blogger will allow them, all Bloggers should!

So I am begging you, if you are a Blogger – please don’t allow this anymore… let’s come together and stand strong – we will not risk losing our sites, for one paid sponsored post…

  1. I’m still confused about all of this to be honest. I don’t have any paid links on my site, but I do participate in group giveaways. Are those supposed to be no-follow also? I’m not even sure how to do a no-follow on a link.
