Learning made fun…with a Learning Journey Marble Mania or G/C G!veaway

If you follow my blog then you know that one of the most important things to me is education. I try my best to ensure that my children are learning as much as they can, in everything that they do. I believe that almost everything can teach something and it is an important part of our lives. This is why I am totally in love with The Learning Journey International, an online site that only offers the best interactive and learning toys and games available.

We were given the chance to review a set of items from The Learning Journey and each item has become a family favorite.

Both of these games were the perfect choices for each of my children, from Baby Miss, age three, Little Miss, age four, to Little Man, age six, each were able to take something away from these two games.

We started with the Match It Spelling puzzle. The way these puzzles work is that there are an assortment of tiny word puzzles with three to four letter words. Each piece of each puzzle has a letter and a piece of the word. I began by giving each of the girls a couple of complete puzzles, took them apart and allowed them to put them back together, while saying the letters and the full word.

When they got a hang of that I then took about five complete puzzles, separated the puzzles, and then mixed them all together and challenged them to find full puzzle matches. I was shocked at how each girl worked methodically to find matches to spell the word pictured on the puzzle.

Of course Little Man, seeing the fun had to join in and did a great job finding a spelling words, while helping his little sisters.

Next we moved on to the Picture Word Bingo. What I totally love about this game is that there are so many ways to play… Each of the bingo boards has two sides. One side only has words, the other has pictures and words. So you can easily have the children match the pictures to the board or words to the pictures or even words to the words. Perfect for all three of my kids.

Again, we started with a simple game of matching the pictures, while sounding out the words…

For Little Man, I had him match words to words, and when he got a hang of that, I made it a bit harder and had him match pictures to words. It was AWESOME!!

Last but far from least, was the Techno Gears, Marble Mania EXTREME! Okay, I am not sure if this was more fun for Hubby, Little Man, or the girls, HA!  First of all, this is recommended for ages six and up and in all honesty, the younger the child, the more help he/she may need from a parent. Not saying a child won’t be able to figure it out on their own, but Little Man, almost seven needed Hubby’s help in a big way.

There are a lot of pieces, exactly 200, to this amazing toy and a lot of reading directions. Thankfully, Hubby and Little Man had a lot of patience and worked on it together.

It was a lot of fun for me, as a bystander, to watch Hubby and Little Man work together. It was cute how they read the directions together, all the while Little Man asked tons of questions about how the pieces fit together, how the gears work, and how he thought pieces should go together and meet up.

It was also a lot of fun to watch as Hubby got more and more into building while Little Man’s sense of humor came out when he was unsure of what to do.

Of course, when it was finished Little Man was more than happy to add the final piece.

2013-09-03 21.37.50 2013-09-03 21.37.47Once they were totally finished we moved it to the kitchen so that we could place it on a flat surface and put it to the test. Little Man was thrilled, watching the gears work and turn while the marbles climbed from the bottom to the top, then rolled through the whole machine. He laughed and smiled, all the while very proud that he and his Daddy made it work, from nothing!

All in all, like I said,  these three items have become household favorites. My kids ask daily to play the Match It Spelling and Picture Word Bingo and not a day goes by that the kids don’t laugh and have fun watching the gears work the marbles through our Turbo Gears Marble Mania!
