What I love about San Antonio… Things to do around town…

I moved to San Antonio, Texas about five years ago, actually it was exactly five years ago this month an I have to say, it has been quite an experience. Whenever I talk to people back home one of the first things they ask is how I like San Antonio. Now, I was born and raised on the North East, so coming to San Antonio was not just a culture shock to me, but a major smack in the face of hotness. Not to mention that my allergies have been horrible since our move… BUT, all in all, I will tell you what I tell everyone back home – I actually LOVE all that San Antonio has to offer.

1. Culture/Pride – Back in Maryland I would rarely see the Maryland flag unless I was visiting a school or government building, but Texas is full of Pride. Many house fly the Texas flag and you can find it everywhere, from the mall, to some stores! I am in awe of how proud Texans are to be from Texas. Oh and the culture is like nothing I have ever seen. Just a short trip down town and you are emerged in culture. You get serenaded while you eat and are in awe as you walk through Missions and the Alamo!

Family Fun – Family-fun is easy to find in and around San Antonio..You can always check out local attractions such as rides and haunted houses, as well as, the Witte & Children’s museum! But don’t forget that you have the Flying L Ranch just a short drive up to Bandera, which offers everything from horse back riding to a small water park. Just thirty minutes north of down town you can visit the Natural Bridge Caverns and Wildlife Resort which is always fun… And on top of that, you have the Zoo, Sea World, and of course Six Flags!

3. Holiday Attractions – San Antonio does do what it can to embrace holidays. You can visit the South Texas Maize for some fall fun or go downtown to visit all the lights around town and on the river walk.

5. Only a drive to the beach – whether you want to hit Corpus or Galveston, you can always catch some waves..

6. We hold our state flower on a whole different standard – Texas has one of the prettiest state flowers – the Blue Bonnet and I have been told that it is illegal to pick them, but we won’t tell anyone, right???

All in all, I really shouldn’t complain about Texas. It does offer so much for families including lower priced housing, tons to do, and some may find it a plus that you can still swim in September – ha, ha, ha!!! Oh and there is beauty to find everywhere!
