Why I need Life Insurance & a Twitter Party with Prizes…

Did you know that September is Life Insurance Awareness Month? Well, the other day I had the opportunity to sit in on a chat with the Savings Bank Life Insurance Company, also known as SBLI. Oh my goodness, to say that I learned a lot is a total understatement. Between you and me I have never thought about why I need Life Insurance. I am not sure why; but it has never crossed my mind. I guess, like most people I just assumed it was super-expensive and only for older people. Boy, was I wrong. Ernie Valliere, who has more than 30 years of experience in the Life Insurance industry and is a Chartered Life Underwriter and Chartered Financial Consultant explained that everyone, even the non-breadwinner of the family should have Life Insurance. Really? How much life insurance do I need

He then got me really thinking about Hubby and my kids and why I need Life Insurance. Could Hubby survive financially without me? I mean, he pays most of the bills, yes; but without me, he would have to get child-care and help around the house. Then my next question was if I could survive without his income? Um, no…

Survive without each other

On this call, I also learned the differences between Term and Whole-Life Insurance and also that Life Insurance is actually less money than I thought it was. Once the call was over, I went directly to SBLI’s Life Insurance Quick Guide, which was a quick question/answer quiz that took all of five minutes. quick life insurance quiz

From SBLI’s Life Insurance Quick Guide Quiz I found out that it is recommended that I have a $764,000 Life Insurance Plan. Now, this took me back a bit and my heart kind of sank.

Then I clicked the compare rates button and found out that I could get a plan like this for as low as $35.35 a month… Wait… I can totally afford that…

Life insurance rate comparisonI don’t know about you, but after much thought I totally now know why I need Life Insurance. It is not a morbid, thought; it is about how much I love my family and how much I want them to have when I am gone.

  1. I hate to think about it, but I know it is a reality we all must face. I take comfort in knowing my girls would be okay though.

  2. We just upped our coverage within the last 2 years. It is a hard topic to think and talk about, but I want to make sure my husband and kids are going to be okay.
