Cricut Explore Air: A Crafters Dream

When I was approached with the opportunity to review the Cricut Explore Air, which is available at Kohl’s, I jumped at the opportunity. I love to create hand-made, one of a kind decorations to display in my home. Pinterest has opened so many doors for me, as far as my crafting creativity is concerned. I had heard about the Cricut through coworkers, but thought it was a thing of myths and legends. I had yet to actually see one in person, only the beautiful, one-of-a-kind creations it produced. When the package arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas, tearing open the package, and “oohing” and “aahing” at each item. Included in the package from Kohl’s was:

  • Cricut Explore Air in a handy storage bag
  • a silver pen to use in the accessory adapter
  • a standard grip cutting mat
  • an iron-on sheet (not pictured)
  • two pieces of cardstock (light blue and grey) (not pictured)
  • a roll of window clings
  • a package of printable sticker paper
  • a variety pen set

So pretty, isn’t it?!

With the Cricut in front of me, in all of its shiny, new glory, I was excited to get started. And then it hit me…where do I begin? Luckily for me, the instruction guide was easy to follow. It included step-by-step directions on how to plug it in, power up the machine, and even install the app on your iPad. I was really blown away by the convenience of the Cricut Explore Air. It is Bluetooth capable, which means you can design right on your iPad, then wirelessly, you can create and then cut your designs. You can literally be sitting in a waiting room at a doctor’s office, or in the park, or in a taxi designing your next project. How convenient is that?! All your work on your iPad is saved under your Cricut account, which you set up at the start. You can even pick up where you left off when you log into your account from your computer. I love that!

Once you downloaded the app, it walked you through how to make your first project. With a shaky, nervous finger, I hit “Go” on the machine, and off it went.

Here goes nothing!

I watched in awe as it swirled silver lines around the paper, and then when it went into cutting mode, I sat mesmerized! My three year old son even ran over to see what I was getting so excited about (he too found it really cool). The final product was this cute little Hello card.

Look what I made!!!

At that exact moment, I realized that I had to use this to make Mother’s Day presents! It took me a few nights to come up with a gift for my mom. Cricut offers many cute ideas for Mother’s Day on the app, which I was able to use for the Mother’s Day cards. My mom, however, is a bit of a non-traditionalist when it comes to gifts. I spent some time watching tutorials online, and was able to create a gift that was as unique as my Mom.

I even used my new Cricut skills to create a gift for my mother-in-law.

I am in love! My crafting skills have now been taken to a whole new level! I have spent many hours browsing Pinterest for ideas on what I can do. Now, when I overhear someone mention that they have a project, I find myself saying, “Hey, I have the perfect tool that can help you with that! Have you heard about a Cricut?” For my fellow “crafting enthusiasts”, I highly recommend the Cricut Explore Air. I am so excited to see what I can create next!
