What to do when your child is too big for a car seat…

So, as you know, my kids are four, six, and eight and have all continued to be in a five point harness. It wasn’t an issue until Little Man had his last doctors appointment and it hit me that he was hitting the weight limit for his car seat. This is when I started looking into boosters and our options. Hubby, looking to save money, wanted to purchase one of those backless boosters, but I wanted something a bit safer. This is when I just happened to be sent the Monterey Expandable Booster from Diono.

Our Monterey Expandable Booster arrived and Little Man couldn’t wait to begin using it. He said it was like a step to growing up. LOL… So, one afternoon, we helped his wish happen.

Expandable Booster for kids

We opened the box and found that the expandable boosted arrived in two pieces… the bottom and the back, which just kind of snap together.

We also found a dial on the back that adjusts the width of the seat to fit Little Man’s shoulders up to 20″ wide.  Plus, the 11-position headrest gives ultimate flexibility and adjusts up to 6.5″ in height with one hand for an easy, precise fit.

fit the expandable booster to the childOnce we had the back of the seat properly adjusted for Little Man, we found that the bottom of the seat offered an integrated LATCH connectors and front adjusters allow for a safe and secure installation in seconds (PS… the LATCH use is optional) and keeps the seat in position when not in use.

Once properly installed in the seat, Little Man was safe-and-secure. He jumped right in and couldn’t wait to go for a drive in his ‘big-boy’ seat.

  1. This is a great booster seat. This definitely makes the transition from a car seat much safer.

  2. I love this seat! I wish we’d had these when my son was transitioning from car seats. Back then, we basically just had to jump from a car seat straight into just wearing a seat belt.
