Traveler’s insurance is so important when you go on a trip. Sure, chances are good that things will go smoothly, but chances are not terrible that you might have a problem. It pays to protect yourself when you travel, especially if your travel includes something extra nice like an all-inclusive resort. I know first hand how much traveler’s insurance can help when you’re on an adventure, so I’ve put together 5 reasons why it’s important to protect yourself when you’re on a trip.Traveler's Insurance

Traveler’s Insurance – You Need It

So you’ve probably heard a lot lately about insuring your trip. It’s become a real thing, and there’s a reason for that. This type of insurance can save you so much money, hassle, and headache should you ever need it. You could be setting off for the trip of a lifetime, or you could be setting off for the nightmare of a lifetime. You just never know.

My Story

I want to tell you my story of my and my husband’s trip to Punta Cana years ago for our 1 year anniversary. It’s a glowing example of why this type of insurance is so important.

My husband and I had been planning a trip to Punta Cana to celebrate our 1 year anniversary for 6 months. After all that planning, we ended up going on an all-out, all-inclusive, luxury getaway. We even booked a ton of amazing excursions in advance. This was going to be our trip of a lifetime. And even though I found out right before we left that I was 13 weeks pregnant, I felt like it was still going to be amazing. I didn’t need alcohol to make the trip totally awesome.

And then it happened. Murphy, that total jerk, showed up and enacted his law. I got so sick so fast. I had cramping, nausea, fever – the whole 9. I was pregnant, so I immediately went to a little clinic where the doctor – who, by the way looked to be barely out of puberty – prescribed me something for stomach pain. When I got back to the hotel, I immediately called my OB who said that I should not take that medication under any circumstances. It was a medication specifically prohibited to pregnant women! Needless to say, we flew home early. We also lost all our hotel and excursion deposits, AND we had to pay that pre-pubescent doctor out of pocket! The only good part of this story is that our baby was fine. But it scared us to death.

The point of this little horror story is that it’s an absolute gem of an example of why traveler’s insurance is so important. So let’s look at some reasons to use it.

Why You Need It

The entire story above pretty much covers it all, so let’s look at 5 of the major reason that traveler’s insurance is so important. Recently I discovered MedEx through UnitedHealthcare Global, and I couldn’t be happier because this company’s traveler’s insurance takes care of all the things that could potentially ruin your trip and your wallet.

Quality Care

Remember the pre-pubescent doctor? NOT quality care. With traveler’s insurance, you’ll know exactly which doctors have verified credentials and have been deemed to provide quality healthcare.

Keeping Down Medical Costs

Remember the out of pocket payment I mentioned to the child-doctor? It was not cheap. Traveler’s insurance through UnitedHealthcare Global is designed to help mitigate those high medical costs. You can choose a deductible or none at all.

Getting Home

Getting home was super stressful for us because we were afraid we might lose the baby. Traveler’s insurance through UnitedHealthCare Global can get you home during a medical emergency. They help with:

  • Evaluate medical needs
  • Choose the best transport method
  • Make family travel arrangements
  • Associated costs

Non-Medical Problems

Quality traveler’s insurance can be a partner in navigating emergencies like lost passports, emergency funds transfers, or other problems.

Protecting Your Investment

Remember the lost deposits on our super fancy hotel and amazing excursions I mentioned earlier? All that stuff can be covered. Through UnitedHealthcare Global, you can add the protection you want from things like lost baggage, trip cancellations or interruptions, and more.

Traveler’s Insurance by MedEx from UnitedHealthcare Global

My nightmare trip to Punta Cana should really be UnitedHealthcare Global’s go-to story for why travelers need MedEx traveler’s insurance. I mean, that trip covered all the bases. MedEx from UnitedHealthcare Global can cover all your bases, too. And their plans are affordable. A basic plan costs about the same as a nice meal at a restaurant. Traveler’s insurance for a 7 day trip only costs a few dollars a day.

My nightmare in Punta Cana showed me the value of having traveler’s insurance on each and every trip, and I never go anywhere without it. If you’re planning a trip, consider getting traveler’s insurance. It’s a great way to protect your family and your trip. And visit MedEx’s website to learn more about their traveler’s insurance. You’ll be glad you did should Murphy make an appearance on your trip.

*Traveler’s insurance plans are not available for purchase to Washington State or New York State residents*

  1. Wow! I’m so glad you thought to check with your own doctor before taking that medicine! I totally agree about traveller’s insurance. It’s a very necessary addition to the vacation fees.
