Home safety is extremely important to me. I have three kids and both of my elderly in-laws live with us . Between those two groups, we have both sides of the age-related at risk spectrum in our home. Because of that, we do everything we can to make home safety as thorough as possible in our home.
Home Safety Means Everything
And I do mean everything. Home safety is all about keeping your family safe, happy, and healthy, and family is what it’s all about. Their safety really does mean everything. Like I said, we have a lot of people living in our house. We are the true multi-generational home. Between the kids, my husband and I, and his parents, there are three generations under our roof. We love it, but it also means we have to be extra careful when it comes to safety in the home, especially since my father-in-law has terminal cancer. Not only does it leave him weak, it decreases his immune system, which leaves him susceptible to illness and generally having a decreased constitution.
Because of these factors, we make home safety an integral part of every aspect of our home life. We use all-natural cleaners as much as possible. We try to make healthy food choices. We also make sure that our furnace is serviced regularly and that our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in proper working order. Children can panic, and the older folks move more slowly, so we need to be sure that all of our detectors work when we need them to.
A New Tool for Home Safety
Because we make home safety such a huge priority, I was excited to learn about the Onelink by First Alert Environment Monitor. Using cutting edge technology, the Onelink monitors for both high and low level of Carbon Monoxide in the home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. When emergency levels of CO are detected, I am notified via the app’s push notification, the light flashes bright red on the device and it also emits a loud, 85 decibel alarm, alerting that the area should be evacuated. Using Apple’s HomeKit technology to quickly notify us of any environmental changes or dangers via my connected iOS devices, I am at peace, even when I am not at home.
The way the Apple HomeKit works is that once you receive your Onelink device, all you have to do is plug it into an outlet, download the app on your apple device, and then just follow the directions through the app. Once linked, you will be able to monitor room temperature, humidity, and be notified of any carbon monoxide issues.
This level of home safety protection is extremely important to me with my kids and in-laws living here. You can’t smell or tasted CO, so it’s incredibly important that the monitor we have is super sensitive. I take NO chances with the fam.

Hardcore Home Safety
When it comes to home safety, I’m hardcore. I love my kids more than anything, and believe it or not, I love my in-laws, too! I know. It’s hard to believe, but I was blessed with the most wonderful, loving in-laws in the world. They treat me like their own child, and I could not be more in love with any couple.
I love my kids, I love my in-laws, I love my husband – most of the time 😉 – so I want to be sure they are completely protected from CO. In my opinion, it’s the most insidious threat to home health because it’s invisible. That’s why I’m using the Onelink from First Alert. It feels good knowing that I’ll know way, way, wwaaayyyy ahead of time if something isn’t right. Because home safety is paramount for me and the ones I love.
