Celebrate National Chicken Month with Cheddar’s “Scratch Facts” – tips and tricks for cooking chicken & a Cheddar’s Gift Card Giveaway

Happy National Chicken Month! This is Little Man’s month as he is the biggest chicken-eater anywhere. From the time he was a toddler he has just had this love for chicken, which is why we were excited to partner with Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen to celebrate. family-night-at-cheddars

Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen is our go-to for a nice family dinner because it is almost like eating at home, without the cooking, serving, and cleaning, that is, ha! What I mean is that Cheddar’s is a scratch kitchen meaning that they take the time to make their dishes from scratch, not from a box. Nice, right? national-chicken-month-at-cheddars

Well, to help celebrate National Chicken Month, Cheddar’s sent me a list of  Cheddar’s “Scratch Facts” – tips and tricks for cooking chicken from scratch at home.national-chicken-month-chickenfrying-2

  1. Chicken needs a minimum of 30 minutes to marinate. For the most flavor, allow your chicken to marinate for up to 6
  2. hours.
  3. Allow your chicken to take a rest after it has been cooked. All the natural juices will soak back into the meat instead of being left on the baking sheet. No one likes wasting flavor!
  4. Soaking chicken in beer brine for a few hours will result in a tender, juicy chicken!
  5. Instead of slicing into the meat, use a food thermometer to ensure the meat is fully cooked.
  6. For an evenly sautéed chicken, set a foil-covered brick on top of the meat. The weight of the brick will quickly and
  7. evenly sear your chicken.
  8. If you want to cook chicken in a slow cooker, make sure you have one quart of space for each pound. Too little room will dry out the meat. (E.g., to cook three pounds of chicken you will need a 3-quart slow cooker.
  9. For an evenly sautéed chicken, set a foil-covered brick on top of the meat. The weight of the brick will quickly and
  10. evenly sear your chicken.
When storing chicken in the freezer, pour some marinade into the bag as well. As the chicken freezes, the marinade
  11. will soak into the meat for an even more savory flavor!
  12. Using a food mixer instead of a fork to shred cooked chicken can get the job done in 30 seconds or less!
  13. It’s best not to rinse chicken before cooking it. Rinsing it could cause bacteria and germs to be splashed throughout your kitchen.

Some great tips, right? But, when it comes down to it, sometimes families need a night out. Just the other night, we took the family into Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen and it was delicious. scratch-made-croisants

From the hand-made croissants {that I have to get every time we go} to the Chicken Fried Steak, everything was delicious.
