Judgement Free Zone. Those words are music to my ears. I want to be healthy. I do. I want to work out. The thing is, whenever I’ve gone to a gym in the past, I was SO self-conscious. I would walk in with my workout gear on, ready to whip my butt into shape, and I’m immediately assaulted by the “Oh my God, she’s really let herself go” looks from a bunch of Abercrombie and Fitch models with their noses so high in the air, they’d drown if it rained. This made me feel like gyms were just not for me, until now. You see, I am obsessed with Planet Fitness and their approach to getting healthy with their Judgement Free Zone attitude. NOW, that’s for me!
Judgement Free Zone for Young and Old
If you have seen the Planet Fitness commercials, then you may have heard about the Judgement Free Zone, what it is, is an attitude that just because you aren’t a magazine model, doesn’t mean you don’t want to be healthy. That’s why Planet Fitness has crafted an attitude of health over being “the right” size at all of their locations.
When you walk into the doors of Planet Fitness, you immediately know that you are in a place where working out is the focus, not being there to be seen. It’s a vibe that puts you totally at ease while you take your journey to better health through exercise. I love that, because, being a mom, in my mid-thirties, I just can’t take teeny boppers looking down their noses at me. There’s no Gymtimidation there, which is great because a place with no egos and no critics is essential to me.
Now, for the big news… did you know that Planet Fitness is taking their Judgement Free Zone a step further? They have have created a zone free of bullying, which seems to be an epidemic in our society. It saddens me to know that 1 in 5 teens report that they’ve been bullied and that parents cite it as their #1 concern for their teens. These are the reasons Planet Fitness is promoting their Judgement Free Generation.
Make the World a Judgement Free Zone
I love what Planet Fitness is doing. You know, I was never bullied in school. I was moderately popular, I was fun, and I felt like I was kind to everyone. I never had to endure the relentless onslaught of mean kids while in school. However, as I got older, I had experiences that drove home how lucky I was. Let me tell you, even adults can be bullied.
I put on a bit of weight after my first pregnancy, and with more kids to come, I never got it off. I began to be looked at differently. MUCH differently. Remember the Abercrombie and Fitch teeny boppers I mentioned earlier? Well, they were my introduction to bullying. I got the looks, of course, but I also got whispers, snide remarks, and thinly veiled insults about my weight and my body shape in general. It hurt so bad. In fact, I stopped even attempting to work out for so long. THAT’S why a Judgement Free Zone and the Judgement Free World that Planet Fitness is promoting is so important to me. Because bullies stay bullies.
Planet Fitness is Making a Judgement Free World in a Big Way
Planet Fitness is putting their money where their mouth is when it comes to making the Judgement Free Zone of their gym a reality for the world. They are encouraging parents to educate their children about bullying and how they can be judgement free. They’re using the initiative, The Judgement Free Generation to help educate and give back to local communities, committing $1.3 million in grants and donations to Boys & Girls Clubs of American to STOMP Out Bullying once and for all.
