Have you heard of Ranger Health?
I tell you, life is just crazy for us lately… I am sure you know that I went back to work full-time, so the whole family has been chipping in to help with the kids. Most nights I feel like I am rushing home for dinner, homework, baths, and have just enough time for snuggles and it has taken a lot out of me. The other day a friend of mine was telling me how she got the flu and that it was not easy on the family and it got me realizing that I just haven’t had the time to go in for my flu shot. I mentioned that I wish that Doctors made house calls and we just laughed, later that evening the folks at Ranger Health contacted me and it was like kismet on timing, as I found out that Ranger Health offers just that; HOUSE CALLS!
If you live in or around San Antonio than you need to learn about Ranger Health. They are truly bringing house calls back and it is just fabulous. Yes, you heard me – HOUSE CALLS, meaning we now have the opportunity to see a Ranger Health’s Physician Assistant in the comfort of our home. Sounds magical, right? Well, I was given the chance to check them out and I am officially won over.
Let me start by telling you a bit about Ranger Health… Ranger Health’s Physician Assistants provide an affordable alternative to visiting the doctor’s office or urgent care center as they can be used for:
- General illness: Even minor medical conditions can cause discomfort and interrupt your daily life. They can diagnose and treat a common cough and cold, viral illness, fever or flu-like symptoms.
- Musculoskeletal: Pain can be caused by disorders of bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, bursae, or a combination. Let them help you find the cause and relief of your joint pain and take care of your sprains or strains.
- Skin: Cuts may need stitches or medical glue. Their team comes ready and prepared to clean and stitch lacerations. They also treat rashes and skin infections.
- Ear, Nose & Throat: Sinusitis, sore throat or strep, earaches, upper respiratory infections, seasonal allergies. They will get us back on the go in no time!
- Gastrointestinal: Experiencing an upset stomach, indigestion, nausea, or vomiting? Stay put while they come to you with the help and relief you need.
- Wellness: Sports and school physicals can be time consuming and inconvenient. Their team provides wellness exams where it is most convenient for you.
Now, like I said, I was given the chance to check them out and it was so super-easy. All I had to do was call and schedule an appointment for my flu vaccine, give some information about myself and voila, my appointment was made… actually for the very next day, talk about quick service. It is so super-cool to me that same-day appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.*
The next day my PA arrived at my house, right on time, ready to help me. We sat for a few moments and just chatted, as I think she could tell I was a bit nervous about my shot. She showed me her bag of goodies, which looked like a Mary Poppins bag, filled with vaccine’s, needles, gloves, and even a little trash area. She then had me fill out some information, she went over the in’s and out’s of the flu vaccine, and had me sign a release.
To me, the best part was that we literally sat on my couch and I talked and she listened, there was no sterile room or rushed feeling, I actually felt like I was important. The PA gave me my shot and sat with me for twenty minutes to be sure there was no adverse reaction.
Of course, I took this time to grill the poor PA who was super-opened about the fact that she LOVES her job and that she relishes the fact that she can really take the time to take care of patients and really get to know them. It is that love that shined through and made me want to use Ranger Health again and again.
Now, I am sure you are curious about the pricing and the truth is, I was shocked to find out that it is actually LESS than going to the med clinic across the street. Visits are $95 on average and payable through a credit/debit card, health savings account (HSA), or flexible spending account (FSA). Unfortunately, Ranger Health does not bill your insurance and some procedures and medications may incur an additional fee, but still, I can’t tell you the bills I am still paying the med clinics for past appointments.
So, if you have anyone, ages 2 and up, and live in the San Antonio area, as well as surrounding cities such as Helotes, Cibolo, Universal City, Leone Valley, Boerne, etc, I would suggest checking out Ranger Health for your next vaccine, sick visit, or even wellness visit.
