Our life is super-busy; between work, school, and sports, it feels like we are always rushing through everything and pushing the kids to move faster. One thing that I will not rush is dinner, not making it, because, come on, that has to be quick and easy, but I am talking about sitting down to a good meal. It is something that is very important to me and something I don’t like giving up. That being said, sometimes it is rough making sure that the meals are filled with what is needed at the time. Now, protein-packed meals can get a bit boring, so I like to switch things up, which is why I was happy to try out the new Barilla ProteinPLUS Pasta. We are a Barilla family, especially since their Gluten Free pasta has recently been named one of Parents Magazine’s “Top 25 Allergy Free Foods” which makes me feel good about their pasta.

The new Barilla ProteinPLUS Pasta can be used in pretty much any pasta dish you already make and my specialty is my hearty veggie shrimp pasta. My family asks for it all the time and I love that it is super-simple and easy to throw together.

I love Barilla ProteinPLUS Pasta because it is a good source of lean protein from a simple blend of egg whites, grains, lentils and chickpeas. Plus, the fact that it is a delicious wholesome pasta that provides 17g of protein (per 3.5oz portion) from all natural vegetarian ingredients and offers a good source of Fiber and ALA Omega-3. Not to mention, that it tastes delicious and doesn’t have any different type of texture… so much so that not a single person in my family has even noticed that I have switched our pasta… which is a huge thing since my family is very particular on sticking with what they know.

Now, for the good part… want to know what I put in my quick and easy protein-packed meals? Well, here is my Shrimp, Veggie, and Pasta meal recipe…

Protein-packed meals Ingredients


  • Barilla ProteinPLUS Angel Hair Pasta
  • Fresh Basil
  • Veggies – whatever I have on hand… but I love using COLORS, such as asparagus, broccoli, red peppers, and colorful cherry tomatoes
  • Red onions
  • Garlic
  • Shrimp
  • Pine Nuts
  • Lemon Juice


  1. Boil water for the Barilla ProteinPLUS Pasta and follow the directions on the box. Protein-packed meals - proetinPlus Pasta
  2. While the water is coming to a boil, begin sautéing the veggies. Begin with about 1/4 cup of diced onions and a tablespoon of minced garlic, then I add the veggies that take the longest, such as the asparagus and broccoli. Sauté them in a bit of olive oil over medium/high heat. After they are almost done, I add in the red peppers and let them brown up. 
  3. After I add the Barilla ProteinPLUS Pasta to the water, I sauté the shrimp with some butter and lemon juice. sauté until the shrimp is nice and pink, then combine with the other veggies. Once the Barilla ProteinPLUS Pasta is ready, add in the tomatoes for just a few moments before serving. Then toss with fresh basil and a tablespoon or two of the pine nuts.
